Recently, on her South America tour 2012, Madonna recently threatened to cancel her only show in Chile. The singer told the gathering crowd in Santiago that she would stop the show if people would not stop smoking. In a video posted by the celebrity gossip magazine the singer can be heard saying, “There are people smoking right now. No smoking! Where are they smoking? If you’re going to smoke cigarettes, I’m not doing a show.” When Madonna felt she was not getting the response she wanted, and in the midst of a cry of, “apura los weones!” (hurry up you idiots!) she continued, “You don’t care about me? I don’t care about you. All right? Are we going to play that game? I’m not kidding. I can’t sing if you smoke… Entiendes!?”
Tickets to the show reportedly cost Chileans anywhere from 27,000 pesos (around £35 ) to 300,000 pesos (£400). The incident comes on the back of several controversial events during the European leg of her MDNA including being booed in France.
The show in Santiago went ahead as can be seen from Madonna’s rendition of Like a Prayer below:
