In the Director’s fortnight section of the Cannes film festival 2012, Pablo Larraín’s “No”, a film documenting the campaign against General Augosto Pinochet in the 1988 referendum,  picks up the prestigious Art Cinema Award, the top prize in the Director’s Fortnight section. Mexican star Gael Garcia Bernal plays an ad executive who adopts a ‘positive’ compaign against Pinochet looking to extend his reign after 15 years in power. Apparently  Sony Pictures has snapped up the North American distribution rights to the film and given that after the premiere at Cannes, the film recieved a standing ovation (!), one wonders if the selection committee may have missed a trick by not including it in the main sections!
